🔬 Food Intolerance Test Panel List

Choose the Food Test That Fits Your Needs
Al Safa Lab offers 3 different testing options, and they do not all measure the same type of immune response:

Specific IgE – 30 Food Allergens

For Food Allergy Investigation

The Specific IgE Food Panel measures IgE antibodies to 30 food allergens.

Specific IgE blood testing can be used as part of the medical assessment when an IgE-mediated food allergy is suspected, particularly when symptoms occur after eating a particular food.

The result needs to be interpreted together with your symptoms and clinical history; a positive IgE result alone does not confirm that you have a clinical food allergy.

Coverage: 30 food allergens
Results: Within 2 days

Food Detective – 60 Foods

A Focused Food-Specific IgG Test

Food Detective measures food-specific IgG responses across 60 commonly tested foods.

It is the more focused of the two IgG options available at Al Safa Lab and may suit people specifically looking for Food Detective testing without choosing the much broader FoodPrint profile.

Coverage: 60 foods
Results: Within 10 days

FoodPrint – 220 Foods

Broader Food-Specific IgG Coverage

Looking for a wider food profile?

FoodPrint 220 measures food-specific IgG responses across a much broader selection of foods, giving you substantially greater coverage than the 60-food Food Detective option.

FoodPrint testing is based on food-specific IgG measurement and is distinct from an IgE food allergy test.

Coverage: 220 foods
Results: Within 10 days

Food Detective 60 or FoodPrint 220?

The main difference is the breadth of foods tested.
Choose Food Detective 60 if you specifically want the smaller 60-food IgG profile.
Choose FoodPrint 220 if you want broader testing across a much larger range of foods.

Food Allergy Test vs Food Intolerance Test

These terms are often used together, but the tests on this page are not interchangeable.

Specific IgE

Specific IgE testing is associated with the assessment of IgE-mediated food allergy. Current allergy guidelines recommend interpreting specific IgE alongside an allergy-focused clinical history rather than using the blood result alone as a diagnosis.

Food-Specific IgG

Food Detective and FoodPrint measure food-specific IgG antibodies, not IgE.

Food-specific IgG results should not be interpreted as proof of a food allergy. Major allergy organisations also do not recommend food-specific IgG testing as a standalone method for diagnosing food allergy.

If you are considering significant dietary restrictions based on your results, discuss them with an appropriate healthcare or nutrition professional.

Not Sure Which Test to Choose?

The type of reaction you are investigating matters.

If you have experienced an immediate reaction after eating a particular food, especially symptoms such as hives, swelling, wheezing, breathing difficulty, or fainting, seek medical assessment rather than relying on a general food intolerance panel.

If you are specifically looking for Food Detective or FoodPrint, choose between the 60-food and 220-food profiles based on how broad you want the testing to be.

Preparation Before Food Intolerance Test

  • No fasting is required before the Food Intolerance Test Panel.
  • You can eat and drink normally before your appointment. A blood sample is required for all available testing options.

When Will I Receive My Results?

Turnaround time depends on the test you choose:

  • Specific IgE – 30 Food Allergens: approximately 2 days
  • Food Detective – 60 Foods: approximately 10 days
  • FoodPrint – 220 Foods: approximately 10 days
  • Results can be received as a printed report, through WhatsApp, or by email.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Food Intolerance Test?

The term food intolerance test can refer to different types of testing. At Al Safa Lab, Food Detective and FoodPrint measure food-specific IgG responses, while the separate Specific IgE panel measures IgE antibodies associated with food allergy evaluation.

What Is the Food Detective Test?

Food Detective is a blood-based food-specific IgG test covering 60 foods. Results at Al Safa Lab are available within approximately 10 days.

What Is the FoodPrint Test?

FoodPrint is a broader food-specific IgG blood test. The Al Safa Lab FoodPrint option covers 220 foods and results are available within approximately 10 days.

What Is the Difference Between Food Detective and FoodPrint?

Both measure food-specific IgG responses. The main difference is coverage: Food Detective covers 60 foods, while FoodPrint covers 220 foods.

Is a Food Intolerance Test the Same as a Food Allergy Test?

No. The Specific IgE food panel and IgG-based Food Detective or FoodPrint tests measure different antibodies and should not be considered interchangeable.

What Does the Specific IgE Food Test Check?

It measures specific IgE antibodies to 30 food allergens. Specific IgE testing may form part of the assessment of suspected IgE-mediated food allergy but should be interpreted alongside clinical history.

Can IgG Testing Diagnose a Food Allergy?

No. Food-specific IgG testing should not be used as a standalone diagnosis of food allergy.

Do I Need to Fast Before the Test?

No. Fasting is not required for the available food testing options.

How Long Does a Food Intolerance Test Take?

The Specific IgE 30-food panel takes approximately 2 days. Food Detective 60 and FoodPrint 220 take approximately 10 days.

Can I Take a Food Intolerance Test at Home in Cairo?

Home blood sample collection is available through Al Safa Lab. You can also visit the laboratory in Nasr City, Cairo.
