Does My Child Need to Fast Before the Tests?

• No. Fasting is not required for the Children’s Health Checkup Package. The package includes a random plasma glucose test rather than a fasting glucose test, so your child can eat and drink normally before sample collection.
• Please inform the laboratory about any medicines, vitamins, or supplements your child is taking, and follow the collection instructions provided for the urine and stool samples.

Pediatric Blood Tests Included in the Package

• The blood-based tests include CBC, ESR, CRP, ferritin, vitamin D, random plasma glucose, ALT, creatinine, TSH, calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase.
• Urine analysis and stool examination complete the package by adding information that cannot be obtained from blood testing alone.

How to Prepare Your Child for Pediatric Blood Tests

• Explain the procedure using simple, age-appropriate language and reassure your child that you will remain nearby. Avoid promising that the needle will not hurt; instead, explain that there may be a brief pinch.
• Unless fluid restriction has been advised, keeping the child adequately hydrated may make blood collection easier. A favourite toy, book, or video may also provide distraction during the procedure. When fasting is specifically required, an early morning appointment and a snack for afterwards may be helpful. Tell the laboratory about any medicines, vitamins, or supplements your child takes. Do not stop prescribed medication unless the treating healthcare professional instructs you to do so.
